The 2009 Taipei International Flower Exhibition is set to open at the Taipei Arena tomorrow, with an explosion of vibrant colors and smells until Sunday.
More than 100,000 varieties of flowers will serve to highlight the best landscaping and floral arrangement talents that Taiwan can offer.
Five-day show
The biennial flower show is organized by the Department of Economic Development of Taipei City Government and supervised by the Council of Agriculture. Entrance to the five-day show is free, and nature lovers are encouraged to join the event. It opens to the public at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
A spokesperson for the DED said that the exhibition is a run-up for the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Exposition, set to open on Nov. 6 2010 and will run until April 25, 2011. Taipei is the seventh city in Asia to host the international gardening exposition.
This year's main exhibition area is located at the B1 floor of Taipei Arena, and is divided into seven sections. On the outside square of the Arena, artists will present their public art creations made up of flowers as the main material.
Dancing flowers
Sherman Chen, commissioner of the DED, said that the main theme running through the flower exhibition is "Flowers Dancing," and that flowers such as flamingo flowers, lilies, chrysanthemums, and roses have been used to create a bright and giant dance platform that looks like fresh flowers having a party together.
Within the flower exhibition, there will be an area showcasing the design concept of the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Exposition, an area introducing new breeds and varieties of flowers, and an area for floriculture competition. Musical and dance performances run through the five days.
