Three Taiwan movies will be screened at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival 2010, which marks its 60th anniversary this year, the Government Information Office (GIO) announced yesterday.
They are 'Monga', directed by Doze Niu Chen-zer; 'Au revoir Taipei' by Arvin Chen; and 'One Day' by Hou Chi-jan.
Meanwhile, 35 films from ten Taiwanese filmmakers will participate in the Europe Film Market. The GIO has published a Taiwan cinema guide to market Taiwan films, covering 117 movies launched in the past one-and-a-half years. The guide will be available at the Taiwan Movie pavilion.
"I hope Taiwan movies will keep moving forward just as 'Monga' suggests, a Taiwanese term referring to a small boat," said Niu during a press conference held yesterday in Taipei. "Monga" has been selected for the Panorama Special program.
The other two titles have been selected into the Forum section and will also have their world premiere during the well-known film festival.
"Bringing audiences into theaters to appreciate Taiwan movies is our top goal," said Frank J.K. Chen, director of the GIO.
"'Au revoir Taipei' is about a love affair and will screen on Feb. 14, also Valentines' Day, during the festival session," Director Arvin B Chen told local media. The leading actress commented that "if anyone feels like falling in love, then I suppose this movie can be called a success."
"One Day" tells a love story that happened on a ship which traveled from Kaohsiung Harbor all the way to Keelung, said Director Hou Chi-jan. The GIO has further planned a Taiwan's Night party on Feb. 16 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
