For those who are looking for a fun and educational way to relax during the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, check out the ongoing exhibition at Taipei’s historical area—the skin peeling village, and be prepared to travel back in time to the birth of modern Taipei.
The exhibition—“Metamorphosis of Taipei in the Past 300 Years” vividly details the geography, people, religion, reclamation, and transformation of the capital city that started in the 18th century. The exhibit will remain on view through February 28.
The main organizers of the exhibition, the Department of Cultural Affairs of Taipei City Government and Taipei City Documentary Commission, have added a new section tied up with the theme “eco-friendly awareness” and “happiness” to bring a different layer to the exhibition, which opened in January.
At the section, visitors can see products that are made of recycled material. They include the lucky bags from Taipei’s famous temples—the Lungshan Temple and Xingtian Temple.
Lee Yung-ping, deputy mayor of Taipei City, said the skin peeling village has become a popular spot for filmmaking or wedding photo shoots, and that she sincerely hoped citizens or international friends would drop by to get a taste of the “old Taipei” atmosphere.
During the exhibition, there will be street entertainers from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. The exhibition hall will be closed on Lunar New Year’s Eve, February 13. From February 14 (Lunar New Year’s Day) to February 18, visitors will be able to get “lucky red envelopes.”
