May. |
Italian famed tenor Andrea Bocelli is scheduled to hold two concerts in Hong Kong and Taipei in May and to perform in the opening concert of the 2010 World Expo, Shanghai on May 1st.
Well-known in the realms of classical and popular music, the blind vocalist received the 2,402nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on March 2. To raise funds for earthquake relief in Haiti, he and Mary J. Blige, a recipient of nine Grammy Awards and many other honors, sang a duet of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge over Troubled Water” at the 52nd Grammy Awards ceremony this January.
In 1992, Italian classical rock star Zucchero recorded a duet with Italian opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti and asked then-unknown Bocelli to record a demo tape of Miserere. Bocelli impressed Zucchero and Pavarotti by effortlessly capturing the very essence of the song. From then on, his unique voice has been drawing attention outside Italy. The worldwide sales of his albums and singles have sold more than 60 million recordings.
Fu Ching-liang, Director of Universal Music Taiwan, said Bocelli became world-renowned as he sang a song named “Time to Say Goodbye” with soprano Sarah Brightman for the final match of German boxer Henry Maske in 1996.
This Taipei concert organized by the Management of New Arts and Universal Music Taiwan is the second time for Bocelli to perform in Taiwan after his last visit in April 2008. The details of the program including pop songs and operas will be released by the end of March.
Bocelli will perform with a Taiwanese orchestra at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at 8:00 p.m. on May 4 and at the Taipei Arena at 7:30 p.m. on May 6. Tickets for these two events are now available at http://www.hkticketing.com/ or http://www.ticket.com.tw/dm.asp?P1=0000010413
