The Taipei Film Festival, now entering its 10th year, is offering an unprecedented grand prize of NT$1 million in its Taiwan film competition.

The film festival being organized by the Taipei City Government and the Taipei Culture Foundation has decided to invite entries under different competition categories, including full-length feature film, short film and documentary. April 2 is the deadline for submission of entries.

The full-length feature film category will have awards for best director, screenplay and actor/actress. The project hopes to attract the participation of talents both in front and behind the camera. So far, only two of the eight locally produced full-length feature films expected to compete have completed the filing of applications to enter the contest.

Chang Cho-chi’s “Soul of a Demon” 【蝴蝶】was the opening film of the last Golden Horse International Film Festival and the Hong Kong Film Festival. Zero Chou’s “Drifting Flowers” 【飄浪青春】- shown this year at the Berlin International Film Festival - tells stories about androgynous relationships in three segments.

Still awaited as entries are Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution” 【色,戒, 】, Tsai Ming-liang’s “Help Me Eros” 【幫幫我愛神】as well as Jay Chou’s “Secret” 【不能說的。秘密】and “Dunk” 【功夫灌籃】, among others.

The organizers call on the public not to wait till the last minute to file applications to join the competition. For more information, go to Website www.taipeiff.org.tw or call tel. (02)2528-9580.
