In the trend of recognition of historic preservation, the government of Republic of China acknowledged and recognized its importance.  Hence, Taipei County government established Danshui Historic Sites Institute in 2005 as an administrative institution in Danshui for cultural affairs, including the restoration, renovation and the preservation of historic sites, as well as education and training.  The main purpose of the Danshui Historic Sites Institute is to promote awareness of historic sites and to provide educational material and resources to stimulate the interest in these sites, so that people can discover their relations with the land and with Taiwan.  The principal administrative center, locates at Fort San Domingo, is in charge of managing 22 historic sites and 1 historic building in Danshui.
