The Migration Music Festival features musicians whose works are often deeply rooted in a particular ethnic tradition but who have left their home for personal or political reasons. Many of them are described as déraciné artists who have been uprooted from their origins and feel a constant yearning to explore new artistic territories.
Though their music differs dramatically in style, these musicians share certain common experiences such as a longing for home and a continual search for individual identity within a society or culture. These feelings are expressed through their music and in turn communicate a diverse range of cultural experience to their audience. The Migration Music Festival hopes to promote respect for different ethnic groups not only in Taiwan but also around the world.
